Ontario Councillor Jim Bowman arrested for drunk driving and hit-and-run – NBC Los Angeles

An Ontario city elected official was investigated Thursday after he was arrested for hit-and-run and driving under the influence.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Monday when first responders received a call about a collision at the corner of Locust Street and Laurel Avenue.

When authorities discovered that one of the vehicles involved left the scene of the accident without offering assistance or identifying themselves, they eventually tracked down the driver at his residence and learned that the driver was Ontario City Councillor Jim Bowman.

When investigators discovered that Bowman was “at fault” for the accident, he was arrested.

Bowman and the other driver involved in the accident were treated at a hospital.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office was expected to conduct an independent review of the case.

Bowman has served on Ontario City Council since 1986. An Ontario resident for 77 years, he has also served as a member of the Ontario Fire Service and as fire chief of the City of Upland.

The city of Ontario declined to comment, citing ongoing investigations.
