1 dead in early morning car crash in LeClaire

An East Moline man died this morning after a car crash in LeClaire.

A LeClaire Police officer spotted a vehicle that appeared to have been involved in an accident at approximately 4:57 a.m. on Monday, July 8, between Forest Grove Road and SW 35th Street in LeClaire. The T-intersection of the roads is a paved two-lane road within the city limits of LeClaire. The vehicle appeared to have struck a tree sometime during the evening, and the sole occupant/driver was found behind the wheel. The driver was extracted from the vehicle and emergency responders attempted to save the man’s life, but the man was pronounced dead.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team conducted an initial investigation which determined that a white 2013 Honda Pilot was traveling east on Forest Grove Road approaching the T-intersection at SW 35th Street. Drivers at this intersection are required to stop and make either a right or left turn. The investigation revealed that the vehicle appeared to travel straight through the intersection, failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a tree on the east side of SW 35th Street.

The driver and sole passenger was identified as a 38-year-old man from East Moline, whose name has not been released because his family has not yet been notified. Investigators determined that the driver did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Emergency Communications Center, Scott County Medic EMS, LeClaire Police Department and LeClaire Fire Department responded to the scene.
