After drone attack in Ukraine, state of emergency declared in Russian region of Voronezh

NEW DELHI: A state of emergency has been declared in parts of Russia’s Voronezh region after a Ukrainian drone strike sparked a warehouse fire, the region’s governor said on Sunday. “There were no casualties,” Alexander Gusev said on the messaging app Telegram, adding that some residents of Podgorensky district were being evacuated.

“The detonation of explosive devices continues,” Gusev said, pointing out that dangers remain in the affected area.

“Several drones were detected and destroyed by air defense systems over the Voronezh region overnight,” Alexander Gusev wrote on Telegram.

“Their falling debris sparked a fire at a depot in Podgorensky district, where “explosives began to detonate,” Gusev said, adding there was no indication that anyone was injured.

Russia and Ukraine have made extensive use of drones, including large explosive devices with a range of hundreds of kilometers, since the start of the Russian military operation in February 2022.
