Former tennis player from Bosnia and Herzegovina banned for six years

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed today that former tennis player Jasmina Tinjić from Bosnia and Herzegovina has been banned for a period of six years after admitting 23 violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

Tinjić, 33, who reached his highest singles ranking of 236th in the world in September 2013, did not deny the ITIA’s allegations of corrupt activities in 2017 and 2018. These allegations included manipulating the outcome of matches, facilitating bets, receiving money in return for a lack of wagers in matches and failing to report corrupt practices.

In 2022, Tinjić was found criminally guilty of match-fixing in Sweden, the player’s country of residence. As a result, the Swedish Tennis Association imposed a four-and-a-half-year ban on Tinjić, applicable to all sports in the country.

The ITIA case was adjourned pending the conclusion of criminal and domestic proceedings and decided by Independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Janie Soublière, who sentenced Tinjić to a six-year suspension and a $20,000 fine, of which $18,000 is suspended.

The ban was applied retroactively to the duration of the ban imposed by the Swedish Tennis Association, meaning the ban began on May 18, 2022 and will end at midnight on May 17, 2028.

During the suspension, Tinjić is prohibited from participating in, training at or attending tennis events authorized or approved by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or a national association, the ITIA writes.
