Hampton Roads District | Hampton Roads District Weekly Traffic Alert: July 7-13, 2024

NOTE: This list includes full closures of highways, ramps, bridges and main roads, as well as lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkeley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.

*Scheduled closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridges and tunnels:

High-Rise Bridge, I-64:

• Mobile, single-lane Express Lane closure on I-64 West from July 8-11 from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge, Route 17:

• A series of nightly test openings from July 8 to 11 between 11pm and 4am, each lasting approximately 30 minutes. Watch the traffic alert.

HRBT expansion project:

Elizabeth River Tunnel (Downtown/Midtown Tunnel):

I-64, widening of the south side, extension of the high-rise bridge:

I-64, Hampton:

• Short, temporary closures on I-64 in both directions from LaSalle Avenue (Exit 265A) and Hampton River Bridge from midnight to 4 a.m. July 8-12
• Full closure of the I-64 East ramp from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road from July 7-12 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
• Full closure of the I-64 eastbound ramp to Rip Rap Road (Exit 265C) on July 10 and 11 from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
• Long-term, continuous one lane closure on I-64 in both directions. This will reduce the number of lanes from three to two between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (Exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (Exit 265A). I-64, Norfolk:

• Long-term full closure of the I-64 East on-ramp from Tidewater Drive South, with a new left turn at Thole Street for access to I-64 East.
• Long-term traffic shift on I-64 in both directions between Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road (Exit 276) to the inner median.
• Long-term, shortened merge area at the Tidewater Drive northbound ramp to I-64 West. The full traffic report can be found here.

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes:

Norfolk, reversible lane:

• Full closure in both directions:
  • Continuously from July 5th at 8pm to July 8th at 3am
  • July 8-12 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Continuously from July 12th at 8pm to July 15th at 3am

Chesapeake/Norfolk/Virginia Beach:

• Full closure of the Express Lane on I-64 from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.:
  • July 7-9 Westbound from South Military Highway (Exit 297) to Great Bridge Boulevard (Exit 292)
  • Westbound on July 8 at Bowers Hill (Exit 299) and Great Bridge Boulevard (Exit 292)
  • July 8th Eastbound on South Military Highway (Exit 297)

I-564, Norfolk:

• Complete closure of the I-564 West on-ramp from Granby Street from July 8 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m.
