Ryan Garcia further ostracized himself on the boxing scene on Thursday with a series of hateful online comments that led to his expulsion from the World Boxing Council, one of the sport’s most important sanctioning bodies.

The banned boxer has posted a lot of confused comments in recent weeks, but he garnered new backlash by using swear words, saying he hates black people and would like to kill George Floyd again while giggling with acquaintances on an X-field:

“I hate n*****, I’m anti-black… n*****, I’m KKK, I hate n*****… Hey let’s bring George Floyd back to life and kill that n***** again.”

That was by no means all he said. Later he ruled out any thought of an apology.

Just a few hours later, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that he was expelling Garcia from his organization. He also mentioned that Garcia had rejected several attempts by the WBC to help him with mental health problems and substance abuse.

Garcia’s own parents later released a statement distancing himself from his comments and saying he needed help:

“Our son has recently made statements that are inconsistent with his true character or that of our family or his beliefs. Our family clearly does not support any of his statements regarding race or religion – these do not reflect who Ryan really is or how he was raised.

“Anyone who knows Ryan can attest to this. Ryan has spoken openly over the years about his ongoing struggle with mental health and as a family we are committed to ensuring he receives the help he needs to get through this very challenging time and improve both his immediate and long-term well-being. We appreciate the continued support, prayers and compassion.”

Garcia is currently serving a one-year suspension he received after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine. The test followed a win over WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney that should have made him a star. That win has since been turned into a no-contest, although Garcia’s legal team has presented evidence that the positive test was due to contamination in the supplement.

The suspension and expulsion are the latest chapters in Garcia’s decline, which has been publicly visible since the beginning of 2024. In about six months, Garcia has:

And now the ejection. It is absolutely clear that Garcia is not feeling well. It is completely unclear when or if he will ever get back in the ring.
