2 dead, 3 children in critical condition in Chicago shooting

CHICAGO (WGN-TV) — Five people were shot, two fatally, on Chicago’s south side Thursday morning.

According to police, officers were called to a home on South Woodlawn Avenue around 6:15 a.m. where several people were reportedly shot.


Upon their arrival, officers found five gunshot victims and began first aid.

Police said a 42-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Family members have identified the women as Capri Edwards and her aunt Nakeeshia Strong.

Police said three children, ages 5, 7 and 8, were also shot and were in critical condition in hospital.

Family members told Nexstars WGN that two of the children belong to Edwards. The 8-year-old is Strong’s child.

According to police, two vehicles drove to the house, several people got out and shot at the house.

The police assume that it started with a “personal dispute”. The investigation is ongoing.
