Procession for investigator Sam Poloche, who was killed in a shooting in East Charlotte

MINT HILL, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A procession was held Wednesday for one of the fallen police officers who was tragically killed in the line of duty in last week’s shooting at an east Charlotte home.

The procession for North Carolina Department of Corrections Investigator Sam Poloche ended Wednesday, May 8, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel.

Poloche was one of four police officers killed April 29 when a U.S. Marshals Task Force unit attempted to serve an arrest warrant for Terry Hughes Jr.

Hughes was killed during the shootout.

A memorial service for Poloche will be held at First Baptist Church in Uptown on Monday at 1 p.m., followed by funeral services in Monroe. According to Monroe police, the procession from the church to Lakeland Memorial Park is expected to take place in Union County on Highway 74 between 3 and 4 p.m.

During the procession, traffic along the route will be temporarily stopped. The Union County route runs along Highway 74, Dickerson Blvd, MLK Jr. Blvd and Lancaster Ave.

A memorial service for fallen North Carolina Department of Corrections investigator William “Alden” Elliott will be held Thursday at Catawba County Community College. The event is open to the general public and all local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Joshua Eyer was buried last week and Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks Jr. was buried on Monday.

Four CMPD officers were injured in last week’s shooting discharged from the hospital this week.

“We are grateful to announce that as of yesterday, all CMPD officers injured in the tragic incident on Monday, April 29, 2024 have been released from the hospital and are now home and on the way of recovery.” CMPD said in a statement on social media.
