Girl dies after being left unattended in car in northwest Houston

The child was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HOUSTON – A 4-year-old girl died Wednesday after being left unattended in a hot vehicle, according to Houston police.

Houston police officials said it happened at an apartment complex on Hollister Road, just off the Northwest Freeway.

According to police, two women were in the car with several children. It is not known how many children were in the truck. They left the truck and went into an apartment.

According to police, the four-year-old remained in the truck.

Police said when the women realized the child was missing, they went back outside and found the girl. Houston police and firefighters were called.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Homicide investigators were on site, speaking to witnesses and searching for surveillance persons. Police said they would then contact the public prosecutor’s office and discuss how they want to proceed.

HPD Lieutenant Larry Crowson said it is very important to know where your children are.

“In this weather, it doesn’t take a few minutes for someone left in their car to become seriously ill or die,” Crowson said.

CPS will be contacted to see if they wish to take action.
