Shooting raises murder charges for Dover teen

DOVER — A 17-year-old Dover man has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said the investigation began at 10:26 a.m. when shots were fired at a residence in the 400 block of River Road.

Responding officers located a 54-year-old Seaford man inside the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered aid to the man at the scene until he was transported to the Bayhealth Kent Campus, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the hospital due to his injuries, police said. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.

Cpl. Schmid said the investigation revealed that the deceased man and the juvenile were involved in a verbal and physical altercation inside the apartment, police said.
During that altercation, police said the juvenile obtained a firearm and shot the man.

According to Cpl, the juvenile left the apartment before police arrived. Smith.

Around 1:30 p.m., the teen came to Dover police to turn himself in, police said. He was taken into custody without incident.

The teen was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was booked into the Stevenson House Detention Center on $535,000 bail, police said.
