Buffalo Trace Launches EH Taylor Jr. Barrel Proof Rye

Buffalo Trace Distillery announced the release of Colonel EH Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey, a new uncut and unfiltered rye recipe joining the Colonel EH Taylor, Jr. collection.

Aged at Buffalo Trace Distillery, this limited edition is bottled at 126 proof.

Considered the “father of the modern bourbon industry,” Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. purchased OFC Distillery (now Buffalo Trace Distillery) in 1869. Here, the whiskey pioneer crafted straight rye whiskey for over 100 years before its resurgence in the American whiskey landscape.

He immediately made his mark on the industry by modernizing, expanding and upgrading the plant with state-of-the-art grain processing equipment and a one-of-a-kind steam heating system still used in barrel warehouses today from the Buffalo Trace distillery. Taylor is best known for being instrumental in the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.

“Colonel Taylor’s impact on the bourbon industry is immeasurable, and more than 130 years after building his famous and innovative Warehouse C, Buffalo Trace Distillery remains committed to producing exceptional whiskey with the highest quality ingredients “, Andrew Duncan, global brand director at Buffalo Trace Distillery, said. “Colonel EH Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey is an exceptional, uncut and unfiltered expression that pays homage to the pioneering vision of EH Taylor.”

This expression of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. is the ideal blend of cask strength and fresh rye spice. On the nose, it has an aroma of white pepper and nutty notes, with a touch of fresh flowers and candied apricot. A sip brings a range of complex flavors, balancing dried and sweet stone fruits with pepper and oak dryness. The lingering finish is full and honey-sweet, concluding an exceptional experience.

“Spirits enthusiasts know that there is no experience like tasting whiskey in its most authentic, untouched form – straight from the barrel,” said Harlen Wheatley, Master Distiller at Buffalo Distillery Trace. “Barrel Proof Rye takes Colonel EH Taylor’s beloved Straight Rye Whiskey recipe to a new level and offers a new version that perfectly complements the EH Taylor, Jr. collection.”

Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey is #13th version to join the Colonel EH Taylor, Jr. collection. Others include Single Barrel Bourbon, Sour Mash Bourbon, Warehouse C Tornado Surviving Bourbon, Four Grain Bourbon, and more. Consistent with previous releases in the collection, the whiskey is stored in the iconic EH Taylor Jr. box, which features a vintage label.

Colonel EH Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey is available now, but quantities are limited. Suggested retail price is $77.99 (750 ml); State taxes and fees vary by market.
