Shooting leaves one dead in north Spokane

Spokane police found one person dead after a shooting near the Serrano Apartments in north Spokane on Tuesday.

According to a police news release, officers responded to reports of a shooting just before midnight near East Wedgewood Avenue and North Lidgerwood Street. A dead person was found in “a sidewalk area” near the complex. Streets near the complex, as well as around the Royal Park Retirement Center, were closed by police Wednesday morning.

Investigators believe a group of people who knew each other were involved in an argument shortly before the shooting, the press release said. According to police spokeswoman Julie Humphreys, no one was in custody as of early Wednesday afternoon.

The incident was at least the third shooting in Spokane in 24 hours. A 31-year-old woman is accused of shooting her father in their home early Tuesday morning because he allegedly abused her, court documents say. Around the same time, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of shooting at a group of people in Riverfront Park.

The Spokane County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim at the Serrano Apartments at a later date.
