Local media reported that residents found the victims. Four of them had their hands tied. The men reportedly had various injuries.

Guerrero is one of Mexico’s regions most affected by drug-related violence, with disputes between cartels leading to 1,890 murders in the state in 2023.

The bloodshed is increasingly affecting the state’s elected officials; two mayors have been assassinated in recent days.

Acapulco was once a playground for the rich and famous, but over the past decade it has lost its shine as foreign tourists have been frightened away by the bloodshed that has turned it into one of the most violent cities in the world.

Since the government of then-President Felipe Calderon launched a military offensive against the drug cartels in 2006, more than 450,000 people have been murdered in Mexico due to escalating criminal violence.
