Man of Indian origin shot dead in Texas during robbery came to the USA 8 months ago

Houston:

In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old man of Indian origin was shot dead during a robbery at a supermarket in the US state of Texas.

Dasari Gopikrishna, who hails from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, came to the United States just eight months ago.

The incident occurred on June 21 at a gas station convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas.

Consul General DC Manjunath, who was in Dallas on Sunday for a Yoga Day event, confirmed to news agency PTI that the incident had nothing to do with a shooting in Arkansas, as previously reported by various sources.

Expressing his condolences to Gopikrishna’s family, Mr Manjunath said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian national Gopi Krishna Dasari in a robbery in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas and are in touch with the family members at the scene.”

The Consulate, with the support of Indian associations, is providing all possible assistance to facilitate the repatriation of Mr. Gopikrishna’s body to India after completion of local formalities, including autopsy and issuance of death certificates.

Mr. Gopikrishna sustained serious injuries in the robbery and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday morning.

The incident has deeply shocked the Indian community in Dallas and the surrounding area. Mr. Gopikrishna leaves behind his wife and son.
