Hopkinton police are searching for the driver of a car that wrecked the golf course

HOPKINTON Police are searching for the driver of a car that drove onto the Hopkinton Country Club golf course last Saturday afternoon, damaging several parts of the course and nearly hitting golfers.

The driver and motive behind the vandalism are not known, police said.

JoAnn Parks, general manager of the country club, said no one was injured, but several greens and fairways were damaged.

“We’re not entirely sure how they got onto the property,” she said. “They drove over a few greens and fairways and then abruptly drove away. The greater concern is the safety and well-being of our guests. That is our biggest concern and fortunately no one was injured.”

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Luckily, Parks said, a golf tournament that took place that day had already ended.

“We had just finished the tournament, so it wasn’t as busy as it normally is on a Saturday afternoon,” she said. The car caused “significant damage” to the greens of holes 1, 7 and 9, Parks said.
