Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a minor in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A person was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a minor in Guwahati.

A team of Jalukbari outpost (OP) of West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) has secured prosecution against Dilip Das of Lankeswar Namusudra Para, who was convicted of raping a 10-year-old girl. The First Information Report (FIR) in this case was registered on January 22, 2023.

The fast-track court convicted Dilip Das under Section 376-AB of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

Sub-Inspector Pritam Das, in-charge of the Jalukbari outpost, led the investigation which led to the conviction of the accused.
