Two adults and two children rescued after boating accident on the James River

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two adults and two children were rescued Thursday evening after a boating accident on the James River.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, units from Chesterfield and Henrico counties – including Chesterfield Fire and EMS, Chesterfield Police Department and Henrico County Fire Department – were dispatched to a boating accident on the James River near Falling Creek.

When Chesterfield firefighters arrived, they found a boat aground on the Henrico side of the James. Since they were on the other side of the river, Chesterfield firefighters used a drone to contact the occupants of the boat and ask if anyone was injured.

None of the four occupants, two adults and two children, reported injuries.

According to fire officials, Henrico firefighters were the first to arrive by boat, just ahead of Chesterfield firefighters, and helped all four people out of the boat and to safety.

A spokesperson for Chesterfield Fire & EMS told 8News that the cause of the accident is not yet clear.
