Today the Bronx will see peak heat and humidity, with sudden thunderstorms expected later

Today is the second day of temperatures above 32 degrees. If we reach 32 degrees or more tomorrow, we will officially be experiencing the first heatwave of the season.

Our next concern is the risk of sudden, severe thunderstorms this afternoon after 2pm. The biggest concern is sudden, heavy rain and gusty winds. Not everyone will see all of this at once.

A heat warning is in effect from Sunday 12pm to 8pm. Temperatures will feel between 35 and 38 degrees. An air quality warning is in effect from 11am to 11pm due to ground-level ozone. Air quality will drop to levels unsafe for health by this afternoon and this will be a persistent problem throughout the weekend.

CONTINUED: Heat and humidity will continue through the weekend and will feel just as oppressive as today, or even more so. There will be more isolated thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend will not be a washout, however. There will be sudden thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening.

Today: Heat Alert: Very hot and humid. Chance of isolated thunderstorms. Highs around 93.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, warm and humid. A few strong thunderstorms. Lows around 75.

Tuesday: Hazy, hot, and humid. Not so bad! You can breathe a little easier! Highs around 87. Lows around 74.

Thursday: Yay! 27 degrees. Still very warm, but bearable. Highs around 30 degrees. Lows around 22 degrees.
