“Totally unacceptable.” Governor Murphy says an investigation into NJ Transit and Amtrak is underway

Good news for commuters this morning – there are no problems with NJ Transit as all lines are running on time or close to on time. However, this has not been the case for the past few days.

Commuters faced delays of up to one and a half hours on Tuesday evening, and some lines had to be closed completely on Tuesday and Wednesday. These disruptions come ahead of a fare increase that is due to come into force on July 1.

Commuters told News 12 New Jersey they want better service and communication when problems arise.

“The last few days have been completely unacceptable. Despite all the progress we’ve made, there have been days like the last few where we’ve been late for work and late for home. It appears both Amtrak and NJ Transit have had issues and we’re getting to the bottom of it,” Murphy said.

“The summers have been tough. Someone walked me through the overhead wires. The wires are exposed to heat and that causes mechanical problems with the cars. That could be a factor here,” Murphy continued.

Murphy says his office is working to get to the bottom of the disruptions.
