Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of 56-year-old Robin Scott Gibson in a press release on Tuesday. Gibson was previously in a federal prison for drug offenses.

After the sheriff’s office received several tips from residents about suspicious activity at Gibson’s home, the ICSO’s drug enforcement unit launched an investigation, Campbell said.

During the investigation, investigators purchased crystal meth directly from Gibson at his home and other locations in the community, the news release said. Based on all of the evidence collected during the investigation, investigators obtained a search warrant for the home, Campbell said.

While executing the search warrant, investigators found approximately 58.4 grams of crystal meth and 9 grams of fentanyl on Gibson, as well as various prescription painkillers, the press release said.

Gibson was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with three counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, three counts of aggravated trafficking in opium or heroin, two counts of aggravated sale or delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance, two counts of aggravated possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and two counts of aggravated possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance.

Gibson appeared before Judge Russell, who ordered Gibson detained without bail on these charges.

During this investigation, ICSO drug agents seized a total of 138.25 grams of crystal meth and 9 grams of fentanyl. The estimated street value of the seizure is $14,765.

“This successful operation underscores the importance of citizen engagement in keeping our neighborhoods safe,” Campbell said. “We rely heavily on the eyes and ears of our citizens.”

According to ICSO, Gibson’s criminal record includes the following charges: “Conspiracy to Manufacture and Distribute Methamphetamine” and “Conspiracy to Operate a Secret Methamphetamine Laboratory.”
