Minor boys attack three persons in Aundh, 77-year-old man in critical condition | Pune News

A senior citizen was seriously injured after he was attacked by a group of youths, including minors, near Parihar Chowk in Aundh in the early hours of Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Samir Roychoudhary (77), a resident of Sayali Garden Society in Aundh. He was retired from private service.

According to police, Samir was on a morning walk. At around 5.15 pm, he was intercepted by some youths near the tennis court in Parihar Chowk. They allegedly demanded money from him. When he refused, they allegedly attacked him and hit him on the head with a hard object, causing serious injuries. He lost consciousness and collapsed on the spot. A local newspaper vendor informed his family members. He was then taken to a private hospital. His condition is extremely critical, a senior police official said.

Meanwhile, police said the assailants attacked another person, cyclist Shreyas Satish Shetty (30) of Ashwini Society in Khadki, who was passing through Aundh. Police said some youths on a two-wheeler intercepted Shetty near Purvi Mobile Shop and demanded money from him. They also tried to snatch money from his pocket. One of them attacked Shetty with an iron rod, but he resisted and managed to escape. However, Shetty’s hand was injured in the incident.

The attackers also attacked Ramsobitkumar Mandal (39) with an iron rod to steal money. Mandal was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Mangal works as a security guard at a construction site in the Parihar Chowk area, police said.

After learning about the incidents, a team of Pune City Police, including investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department, rushed to the scene and launched an investigation.

Shreyas Shetty filed the first complaint (FIR) in the case under Sections 397, 307 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code at Chaturshringi police station.

According to police, the attackers wanted money and attacked people on the streets near Parihar Chowk. They attacked at least three people and then fled the scene on a motorcycle and an autorickshaw.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil said the attackers had been identified and four of them, all minors, had been arrested. Further investigations were underway.

“The search is ongoing for two other youths, including an underage boy, who were proven to have been involved in the crime,” a police officer said.

Local residents said such crimes were widespread in the Aundh area and demanded that police increase patrols, especially in the early morning hours.
