Former Super Bowl MVP, Last-Chance WR among 5 Bills to Watch at Minicamp

The group will come together this week in Orchard Park with the Buffalo Bills’ mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 11-13 and some players have something to prove.

In particular, I’ve identified five Bills who can improve their stock by performing in the final practices of the offseason schedule.

In addition to closely monitoring three returnees who are trying to resettle, two new arrivals can begin to carve out a place for themselves.

The Bills used the No. 60 draft pick on Bishop, likely in the hopes that the Utah safety would compete for a starting job at a position in transition.

Bishop has attracted attention for his physical build and athleticism, but just how instinctive is he? Will he quickly grasp the essential concepts of Sean McDermott’s defensive scheme? How fast can it process? Will it easily establish back-end lines of communication?

Signed as part of a recovery draft, Claypool reportedly made several impressive plays during OTA practices open to invited media. The former Top 50 draft pick is on his fourth different team in the last two years, but he’ll have a chance to earn a spot in a wide receiver room that saw tremendous turnover this offseason.

Is the Claypool hype justified or premature? Has he already formed a relationship with quarterback Josh Allen? His performance at minicamp could provide some answers.

The former Dallas Cowboys starter received positive reviews for his first go-round as Buffalo’s starting left guard, but he is apparently attempting to change positions this offseason.

With veteran center Mitch Morse reduced due to the salary cap, the versatile McGovern should slide a spot to his right. He was Penn State’s starting center as a sophomore, but he has big shoes to fill. Allen and McGovern have built a quarterback-center relationship during OTAs and it will be good to see how far they have progressed so far.

The Bills had high hopes for Miller when they signed him to a massive contract in 2022. The Super Bowl 50 MVP hit 8.0 in his first 10 games as a Bill before a torn ACL derail his mandate.

Miller admittedly took more time than initially thought to get back into shape, and he says he’s “feeling good” this spring. Keep an eye on how he looks when the pace picks up a bit at minicamp. Are there signs of a revival?

The 2023 fifth-round pick spent his entire rookie season on the board and finds himself in a crowded receiver room this spring.

In order to secure a role on the 53-man roster, the big infield target will need to beat out recently added veterans such as Claypool and two-time Super Bowl champion Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Minicamp is a good time for Shorter to declare that he is both serious and capable of winning a job.
