Employees of an Athens company are being investigated for embezzling $3 million

A company in Athens has reported embezzlement by a former employee. The company is accused of stealing more than three million dollars over a period of six years.

Athens-Clarke Police have launched an investigation into the complaint filed May 22 by company representatives of Integrity Foods Inc. of Old Hull Road, a chicken product processing and delivery company.

The suspect was fired after the missing money was discovered because documents were found in which he had created false employment records for former employees and deposited checks for those individuals directly into accounts controlled by the suspect.

Company officials also noted that they are currently conducting an investigation to determine whether the thefts have continued for longer than the six years they currently know about, the report said.

When the alleged plot was uncovered, company officials began monitoring payroll, which led to the employee’s dismissal.

According to the report, the company provided police with documents related to the transactions, including falsified records from former employees.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation has been assigned to police Detective Blake Manning, who can be reached at 762-400-7396 or [email protected].
