Two people died in an accident in Cabool on Friday

Two people were killed Friday afternoon when their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer about a mile west of Cabool on U.S. 60, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Cpl. Travis Brown said a westbound 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Larae S. English, 31, of Bridgeport, Alabama, left the left side of the road and overturned into the path of an eastbound 2024 Kenworth T680 driven by Michael Leggs, 54, of Selma, Alabama. The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m.

Brown said the driver of the Explorer was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 3:10 p.m. by Texas County Deputy Coroner Brent Honeycutt. A passenger, Christopher J. Thomas, 42, of Cowan, Tennessee, was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. by Texas County Coroner Marie Lasater, the patrol said. Next of kin have been notified. The bodies were transported to the Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home in Cabool.

Everyone was wearing seat belts. The vehicle was a total write-off, the semi-trailer had moderate damage. The driver was uninjured.

A section of US 60 was closed while emergency crews worked the scene.

It was the ninth and tenthth Deaths of the year in the nine-district Force G. In comparison, there were twelve in the same period in 2023.
