Hawaii Island Police are asking the public for help in identifying a woman who circulated a counterfeit $100 bill.

On April 24, 2024, at approximately 2:32 p.m., South Hilo Patrol Officers responded to a reported theft at a business location on East Puainako Street in Hilo.

During their investigation, officers discovered that an elderly Asian woman purchased a large amount of groceries using a counterfeit $100 bill at approximately 2:20 p.m. on April 24, 2024. The bill was later checked with a counterfeit money detection device, which revealed that it was counterfeit.

Police have included photos of the woman who passed the bill, captured by the company’s video surveillance system. Anyone with information about this investigation or the woman’s identity can contact Detective Jenny Lee at (808) 961-2279 or [email protected].
