Man arrested after collision with police officer; accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without headlights

A subway man has been arrested in connection with a crash involving a police officer in northwest Oklahoma City. New court documents reveal the moments surrounding the accident.

At around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, a violent collision occurred near Northwest 10th and Ann Arbor Avenue, severely damaging a police cruiser and another vehicle.

Police confirmed the officer was responding to a call about a fight. According to new court documents, the officer drove eastbound into the intersection with his lights and siren on and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Fernando Leija.

After the accident, both drivers went to the hospital to be treated for their serious injuries. Both were later released and Leija was taken directly to prison.

A search warrant shows that Leija was driving without his headlights on.

An officer noted that Leija “showed signs of impairment” and admitted to officers that he “had consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana prior to the collision.”

Jail records show Leija was arrested for drunk driving and driving without headlights. He has since been released from prison on bail.
