Sexual harassment by female bosses

She is the fresh-faced secretary pursued by her high-powered partner. She is the college intern who becomes the butt of her boss’s dirty jokes. She is the junior associate recommended by her supervisor. When it comes to sexual harassment in the workplace, popular culture has a favorite image: the powerful man harassing his subordinate.

But according to a new study, female bosses are actually more likely to be sexually harassed than female subordinates. Researchers from the University of Maine and the University of Minnesota analyzed the Youth Development Study, which surveyed 1,010 people at regular intervals beginning when they were high school freshmen in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1988. They looked at the responses from when these people were 29 and 30 years old, and then interviewed 33 of them in detail.
