Man sentenced to 13 years in prison for raping woman he met in Kingston nightclub

A man who met a woman in a nightclub and then filmed himself raping her has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Taulant Krasniqi, 25, approached his victim, in her twenties, on the dance floor of a nightclub in Kingston, south London.

The woman went home with Krasniqi, but slept in her own bedroom.

During the night, she woke up briefly and saw Krasniqi sitting at the foot of her bed with her phone in her hand.

But when she woke up, he had fled.

Later that day, her friend told her that she had been sent a Snapchat showing the victim lying naked in bed next to an empty condom wrapper.

When the woman realized that she might have been raped, she called the police and said that she had not consented to have sexual intercourse with Krasniqi.

Krasniqi was identified and arrested, but during interrogation he insisted that the sex was consensual.

Officers discovered videos on his phone showing Krasniqi having sexual intercourse with the woman without her involvement and therefore unable to give her consent.

Messages from Krasniqi’s phone also show that he boasted to friends about stealing items from their room, including an Oyster card and an iPod.

Krasniqi was found guilty of rape at Kingston Crown Court after previously pleading guilty to voyeurism and theft, all of which relate to incidents that took place on November 12, 2017.

DI Julian Crabb said: “Krasniqi knew that the woman he had gone home with was incapable of consenting to sexual acts and yet he took advantage of the situation and raped her.

“He also filmed the woman without her knowledge and shared this on social media. His behaviour is truly abhorrent and I am pleased that he has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term that reflects the seriousness of his offence.

“I would also like to commend the woman who attacked Krasniqi. She showed tremendous courage by reporting the incident to the police and assisting with the investigation. I hope that the verdict gives her the opportunity to move on with her life.

“Anyone who reports a sexual offence to police is offered the support of a specially trained officer to guide them through the investigation process – in this case PC Sheena Woodward worked tirelessly and was invaluable in achieving this conviction.”
