A certain Mohammed Yaya is said to have raped a ten-year-old girl in Tumu, in the Akko Local Government Area of ​​Gombe State.

Yaya, 45, is said to have raped the minor on two separate occasions after offering her 150 naira.

The state Police Spokesman, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this while parading arrested suspects at the police headquarters in Gombe on Friday.

Abdullahi said the man paid the girl 100 and 50 naira respectively and confessed to the crime.

“On May 27, 2024, the suspect lured a 10-year-old girl into his house and had sexual intercourse with her. According to preliminary investigations, the suspect confessed to committing the act on two separate occasions.

“He revealed that he gave her 100 and 50 naira respectively. The case is currently under investigation and will soon be brought to court.”

At the same time, the Police Headquarters announced that a 13-year-old minor was arrested for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Akko.

Abdullahi said the suspect dragged the eight-year-old girl onto a lonely path and did his will with her.

According to Abdullahi, “on May 24, 2024, the Akko Department received a formal complaint alleging that the suspect dragged an eight-year-old girl into a corner and had sexual intercourse with her on May 22, 2024. The case is currently under investigation.”

Abdullahi also produced 18-year-old Usman Husseini from Hammadu Kafi in Gombe district, who was alleged to have raped a minor with his finger.

“On 26 May 2024, a formal complaint was received from one Musa Saleh of Hammadu-Kafi area of ​​Gombe that Husseini carried his four-year-old daughter to a corner near his house and inserted his finger into her private part.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives from Pantami Division rushed to the scene, arrested the said suspect and took both the suspect and the victim to the Specialist Hospital for medical examination.

“The case is still under investigation and charges will be brought before the court once the investigation is completed,” Abdullahi added.

Commenting on the implementation of child protection policy in the state, Abdullahi said: “The issue of rape is taken very seriously by the government. The Public Prosecution Service has made it its mission to combat rape and other forms of abuse.”
