KANSAS CITY – Law enforcement is investigating a suspect on multiple charges following a standoff at a Kansas home.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, Overland Park police, assisted by Kansas City, Kansas police, responded to the 500 block of Barnett Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, as part of a criminal investigation into a theft, according to a news release.

When a resident of the home arrived, he gave officers permission to enter the home. Inside, they discovered a weapon and heard noises that indicated there was another person in the home.

The police then left the scene and a special unit from the Kansas City Kansas Police Department arrived at the scene to execute a search warrant.

Traffic to the block was then temporarily closed to through traffic for safety reasons. After about three hours, the suspect, who is wanted on federal charges, exited the house and was taken into custody without incident at about 12:45 p.m.

No violence was used and neither the suspect nor the officers were injured during the operation.

KCK Police and KCK Animal Control were called to the same address on May 5 for a report of a vicious dog attack on a pedestrian. The dog was taken into custody by Animal Control at the time and the residents of the home were charged with various city code violations related to the attack. These incidents remain under investigation by the Overland Park and Kansas City, Kansas, police departments. Police did not release the suspect’s name.
