One dead in shooting in Longmont on Thursday evening

One man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Longmont on Thursday evening.

According to a Longmont Public Safety news release, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Hawthorne Place at 11:28 p.m. Thursday for reports of a shooting.

According to the post, preliminary investigations revealed that an altercation occurred between four men. During the altercation, both parties fired shots.

A 27-year-old man died at the scene from a gunshot wound. Another man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, the press release said.

Police are currently questioning two “persons of interest” in connection with the incident. The release states the cause of the dispute is still unclear and is currently under investigation. Police said the investigation is ongoing and details may emerge as more evidence is collected.

In the release, police said they are looking for surveillance video from the area between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and are asking any witnesses who have not yet been interviewed to come forward. Videos can be uploaded to police at bit.ly/LongmontPDHawthornePlace.
