Teen steals store in Abington and bites officer, police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

A teenager is accused of kicking and biting police officers as they arrested her and four other teens for allegedly stealing from a sporting goods store in Abington Township, Pennsylvania.

On Saturday, May 18, just before 7:30 p.m., Abington police responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods at 2514 Moreland Road in the Willow Grove neighborhood for a report of a theft. When police arrived, store employees said they observed five teens stealing merchandise and putting it in bags. Police stopped the girls as they attempted to leave the store, officials said.

One of the girls, 18-year-old Sani Reed of Philadelphia, was in possession of the stolen items, according to charges. When officers attempted to arrest her, investigators say Reed resisted and tried to break free. Officers threw Reed to the ground and attempted to control her hands as the teen continued to resist, police said. Reed allegedly flailed with her body, kicked an officer and bit two of the officers, causing skin lacerations. She also escaped from handcuffs twice before officers finally took her into custody.

Police recovered 54 stolen items from the teenagers with a total value of $1,899, investigators said.

According to the criminal complaint, both bitten officers had to receive medical treatment in the hospital.

Reed is charged with aggravated assault, escape, shoplifting, receiving stolen goods, resisting arrest, simple assault and harassment. She is currently free on bail. The four other girls were charged with theft as juveniles.

No specific legal representation for Reed is listed in online court records.
