2 people arrested after fleeing a fight on the outskirts of Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa – Reports of a fight and armed individuals sparked a lengthy foot chase Wednesday night that ended with two arrests.

Des Moines and West Des Moines police were called to an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Creston Avenue on the western edge of Des Moines around 6:30 p.m. As officers pulled into the parking lot, a group of people scattered.

Officers pursued the suspects and found one near 63rd and Railroad Avenue. Police said 19-year-old Artis Sturdivant struggled with the officer and pepper spray was used during the arrest. A gun was recovered that was discarded during the chase.

Sergeant Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department said Sturdivant will be charged with prohibition on carrying firearms, obstruction of possession of weapons and assault on a police officer.

Police also arrested 20-year-old Davion Moore on outstanding warrants from Polk County.
