Houston Dynamo FC beat Colorado by three to earn three points at home

HOUSTON (May 29, 2024) – Houston Dynamo FC defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-1 at Shell Energy Stadium tonight, behind the attackers’ goals Amine BassiMidfielder Blessing Latif and forward Sébastien Kowalczyk. The result marked the first time Houston had scored three goals this season.

It was also a historic night in goal, as the goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell made 10 saves to match current GM That of Pat Onstad club single-match record. Tarbell made his second start of the season tonight in relief of an injured Steve Clark.

Dynamo took the lead in the 40thth minute Bassi caught a brilliant cross from the defender Griffin Dorsey. The play marked Bassi and Dorsey’s second goal and second assist, respectively.

Colorado won a penalty in the 48thth minute when Tarbell was deemed to have tripped Kévin Cabral in the penalty area. The veteran goalkeeper saved Rafael Navarro’s initial penalty, but Djordje Mihailovic found the back of the net with the rebound to level the score.

Houston regained the lead in the 70thth minute when Blessing scored a volley goal from outside the box after a punch from goalkeeper Zack Steffen. The score marked his second MLS goal for the Dynamo after scoring his first last week at the LA Galaxy.

Kowalczyk extended Houston’s lead in the 80thth minute later move forward Aliyou Ibrahim sent a ball to the Polish international at the edge of the area. Kowalczyk fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the net for his first goal in front of the home crowd.

Dynamo had their first shot on target in the 21stst minute a corner went towards the defender Michaelbut the Brazilian couldn’t manage enough power to beat goalkeeper Keegan Rosenberry.

A few minutes later, the midfielder Adalberto “Coco” Carrasquilla volleyed a shot just wide of the far post after Ibrahim passed a ball across the box to the Panama international.

Tarbell intervened to make a double save at the 26th minute, diving to block Navarro’s initial attempt before diving again to stop a Cabral shot at the near post.

Midfielder Arthur scored a shot on target in the 47thth minute, but his low and powerful attempt at the right post is repelled by Steffen.

Ibrahim missed the target by a few centimeters in the 66thth minute with a one-touch shot after a quick Carrasquilla delivery from the right side.

Ahead of the June international break, Dynamo will face Portland Timbers FC on Saturday, June 1, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT. Houston beat Portland 1-0 at home earlier this season.
