Wake-Up Weather: WEATHER WARNING DAY FOR TUESDAY | KTAB

Summary:

A few things to keep in mind today: We expect strong to severe storms today into early Wednesday. You should double check the forecast with us as we continue to refine the development of these storms. The biggest concern will be DAMAGING GUSTS, i.e. winds of 60-80+mph (hurricane force) as a squall line moves through. On the leading edge, we can expect GUSTS, large hail and a brief turbulence cannot be completely ruled out. Then some of the first storms could lead to flash floods. During the night/morning hours of Wednesday, some sudden thunderstorms are possible behind the leading edge, which will dissipate by the evening.

The main line of storms develops to the west along a dry line around 3-4pm. When we see isolated storms, those are the storms that have the highest chance of large hail and tornadoes. As storms cluster and move east, they are expected to form an MCS/squall line where STRONG WINDS are the main threat. (Can still cause damage.) These storms are usually fast and aggressive, we will be watching for kinks in the line that could create some twisters along the way.

The atmosphere is ready for storms, there is plenty of potential energy, moisture is plentiful, and with the dryline and stationary frontal/outflow boundary to the east, we have the lift needed for storms to build quickly and become severe once we manage to break through the CAP. Storm chances will continue almost every day this week through the weekend.

Today: Mostly sunny, clouds developing, leading to strong to severe storms by evening. High: 91° Wind: SSE 5-15 G 20 MPH

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, a few thunderstorms possible, strong to severe, overnight into early Wednesday morning. Low: 65° Wind: East 5-15 MPH
