Cyclist hit and killed in Osceola County, cops say

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Florida. – A 59-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a car in Osceola County on Sunday later died of his injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to an accident report, the fatal accident occurred on Florence Villa Grove Road near Westside Boulevard at around 8:51 a.m.

Police said a Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 24-year-old South Carolina man and the bicyclist were traveling east on Florence Villa Grove Road, approaching Westside Boulevard.

According to the report, the driver of the Malibu failed to maintain his lane and the front of the vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle.

The cyclist, a West Palm Beach man, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Malibu and two passengers remained at the scene and were not injured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
