Deputy shoots mentally ill man in Montgomery County

Authorities said 21-year-old Kedrayn Blueford was experiencing a manic episode, so his family called the sheriff’s office.

PORTER, Texas – Authorities say a man is dead Friday night after being shot by a Montogomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

It happened in front of a home on Jordan Pond Ridge in the Highlands Subdivision in Porter.

At around 8:20 p.m., officers responded to a domestic violence incident involving a man armed with a knife. When they arrived, the sheriff’s office said the man, identified as 21-year-old Kedrayn Blueford, resisted all verbal commands to drop the knife.

Authorities said Blueford has a history of mental health issues and was reportedly experiencing a manic episode, which is why his family called the sheriff’s office.

Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Blueford reportedly approached officers with the knife.

The officer fired his weapon and hit Blueford, who died at the scene.

No MPs were injured.

This shooting is currently being investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with crime scene investigators, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers.

Montogomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson issued the following statement:

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the person involved in this evening’s tragic incident. We are deeply saddened by this loss and understand the immense grief and pain the family is experiencing. Our thoughts are also with our MPs who are deeply affected by this unfortunate event.”
