Leopard attack: 4-year-old girl attacked by leopards in Pauri, cages set up | Dehradun News

Dehradun: A four-year-old girl was reportedly injured in a leopard attack in Srikot village of Pauri district on Tuesday evening. The forest department has set up cages to capture the leopard. The victim is currently being treated at AIIMS, Rishikesh for his injuries sustained in the attack. Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of AIIMS, said the girl was admitted to the trauma ward of the hospital around 1:30 am on Wednesday. She was referred from Srinagar Base Hospital in Pauri. Pauri Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Swapnil Anirudh said, “The girl had gone to the toilet outside the house. Her mother accompanied her but left to attend a call. When the girl returned, she was attacked by a leopard. Hearing her screams, her mother left the house and made loud noises to scare the big cat, following which the cat fled from the spot. “To catch the leopard, additional personnel were brought in from other forest areas of Pauri – currently a team of 30 people are monitoring the movement of the cat. “Two teams, each comprising 15 members, are scanning the village areas of Srikot and Daang. There are also two drone surveillance teams, 11 cages and 20 camera traps strategically installed to capture the leopard. Police assistance is also sought in managing the crowd,” the DFO added. The forest department has asked for additional Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) members for the rescue operation. Additionally, the city administration has been asked to improve solar lighting in the area as it is plunged into darkness after sunset, according to the forest frontline team.
