Newbury native Matt Bazirgan promoted by Buffalo Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills have promoted Matt Bazirgan, who grew up in Newbury and took Triton to a 7-3 record as a senior in 1995, to the role of director of college scouting as part of a series of changes in the scouting department announced Friday under general manager Brandon Beane.

Bazirgan finished his second season with the Bills and previously held the title of senior staff executive.

After graduating as a three-sport athlete at Triton, Bazirgan spent three years as Bates’ starting quarterback. After graduating in 2000, he spent a season playing for the Elancourt Templars in France.

He soon returned to Bates where he spent the 2001 season as a football intern before joining Springfield College, where he earned a master’s degree and spent two seasons as an assistant coach.

In June 2004, he was hired by the Jets as a college scouting assistant and began moving up the ranks in the organization, working his way up to director of pro personnel in 2015 and then director of college scouting in 2017.

In 2018, he left to spend four years with the Texans, then joined the Bills as a senior personnel executive in May 2022.
