An investigation is underway into the fatal shooting of an armed man by police in East Flatbush

An investigation into the fatal police shooting of an armed suspect in East Flatbush is underway.

According to authorities, the incident began when police witnessed an argument between two men near Church Avenue and East 52nd Street early Sunday morning.

Officers intervened when they saw one of the men pointing a gun at the other.

The NYPD says officers warned the man to drop the weapon. He did not comply with the request and tried to escape.

Officers eventually caught up with him and used a stun gun on the suspect. Although he was momentarily dazed, he continued to run back toward East 52nd Street.

According to police, the officers again warned the man to drop the weapon. He did not comply with this request and the officers shot him.

According to the NYPD, officers attempted to give him life-saving treatment. However, he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The officers involved were also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Authorities don’t yet know what led to the initial argument between the two men.

NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said another person was taken to the hospital with a graze wound to his leg.

β€œHe said he was near this area. So this will be part of the investigation to determine whether this man was actually hit at this location,” he said.
