Air quality warning this evening into tomorrow

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Today we had warm temperatures in the 80s, reaching the upper 80s in some locations with sunny skies and calm conditions. Only a few fair weather clouds moved through the region with wind speeds between 5 and 15 miles per hour coming from the west.

Tonight we will see a few scattered showers and possibly a few rumbles of thunder, especially before 9pm. Due to the dry air, most of the rain will not reach the ground, but there may be some spots that will see some rain, particularly in northern Iowa.

We have an air quality advisory for southern Minnesota counties. The alert is valid until Monday lunchtime. Wildfire smoke from Canada will move into our region later this evening, causing unhealthy air quality for vulnerable groups.

The air quality forecast is currently at ‘unhealthy’ for sensitive groups this evening and Monday, but the air quality forecast for this evening could be raised to ‘red’ or unhealthy levels.
