1 seriously injured after motorcycle crash on I-290 West

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — One person was seriously injured after a motorcycle crashed into the back of another vehicle Saturday afternoon on westbound I-290 in Amherst, police said.

Police said a 20-year-old Cheektowaga man, while riding a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle, crashed into the rear of a 2015 Honda around 11 a.m. between Millersport Highway and the exits I-990.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries to his back, head and wrist. He was transported to ECMC by ambulance and there was no immediate update on his condition. The occupants of the Honda were not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time in connection with the accident.

The incident blocked westbound I-290 between Exit 5 (Millersport Highway) and Exit 4 (I-990) for a little over three hours. The section of road reopened around 2:15 p.m., according to NITTEC.

The crash remains under investigation and witnesses or drivers with dash camera footage are asked to contact the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1311.
