Months of investigation lead to drug arrest

NEW BEDFORD – The Dartmouth Police Department’s Special Operations Division, involved in a month-long drug investigation, helped execute an arrest warrant for Shawn Pontes, 41, of New Bedford, on Thursday, May 9, according to the Dartmouth Police Department.

According to police, the arrest was made by Massachusetts troopers assigned to the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit at a residence on Hillman Street in New Bedford around 11:25 a.m.

The arrest came after an April 26 search warrant for the same location uncovered 22.5 grams of suspected powder cocaine, 36 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 22.6 grams of suspected fentanyl, 14 grams of suspected methamphetamine and numerous other pills believed to be Oxycontin, Suboxone and other trafficking revealed According to Dartmouth police, Xanax, a digital scale and other suspected drug devices are commonly used to sell narcotics on the street level.

Pontes is charged with trafficking fentanyl, trafficking cocaine, class B possession, class B possession (subsequent offense), two counts of possession with intent to distribute class B, two counts of possession with intent to distribute class B (subsequent offense) and Charges of Class E Possession, Class A Distribution (subsequent offense) and Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, police said.
