Singer man killed in dump truck accident in Beauregard Parish

DERIDDER, Louisiana (KLFY) — A Singer man was killed Monday afternoon when he crashed into the back of a stopped dump truck in Beauregard Parish, authorities said.

Christopher Burge, 46, of Singer, was killed in the crash.

Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on Louisiana 3226 near the intersection with Glendale Road shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Burge was traveling south on La. 3226 behind a 2019 Mack dump truck. Due to construction congestion, the dump truck was forced to stop. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet was unable to stop and struck the rear of the dump truck, officials said.

Burges was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the accident.

Although no impairment is suspected, standard toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and sent for analysis. This accident remains under investigation.

In 2024, Troop D investigated 11 fatal accidents with 12 fatalities.
