Penguins, Bruins among teams set to compete in 2024 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that six NHL teams will once again participate in the 2024 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, New York.

The Prospects Challenge will run from Friday, Sept. 13 through Monday, Sept. 16 at LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo. It will be hosted by the Buffalo Sabres for the ninth year since it began with just four teams in 2015. The event will be a round-robin tournament, with each franchise playing three games and the club with the best record being named champion.

The six teams that will participate in the tournament will be the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins. This will be the first time Columbus will participate in the Prospects Challenge, with the Montreal Canadiens having been the sixth team to participate in previous years. Pittsburgh won the tournament in 2023.

Rosters and details will be announced at a later date. Notable players to watch include 2024 NHL Draft first-round picks Cayden Lindstrom (CBJ), Carter Yakemchuk (OTT), Anton Silayev (NJD), Konsta Helenius (BUF) and Dean Letourneau (BOS).

Friday September 13th

  • Boston vs. Pittsburgh, 12 p.m.
  • New Jersey vs. Ottawa, 3:30 p.m.
  • Columbus vs. Buffalo, 7 p.m.

Saturday September 14

  • Pittsburgh vs. Ottawa, 12 p.m.
  • Columbus vs. Boston, 3:30 p.m.
  • New Jersey vs. Buffalo, 7 p.m.

Monday September 16

  • Boston vs. New Jersey, 10 a.m.
  • Ottawa vs. Columbus, 1:30 p.m.
  • Pittsburgh vs. Buffalo, 5 p.m.

The Sabres will also host Fan Fest and Hockeyfest on Saturday, Sept. 14, prior to the team’s game against New Jersey. Fan Fest will feature activities, appearances by former Buffalo players and live programming with current Sabres players. Hockeyfest, the Sabres’ all-day outdoor street hockey tournament, will also take place during Fan Fest along Perry Street across from Alumni Plaza.
