Sunshine returns to SWLA, along with some rain!

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – Sunday was our transition day with less rain across the region.

The dry weather will continue this week. And that’s excellent news considering how much rain we had all last week. It’s worth noting, however, that there could be a few isolated showers in the afternoon hours this week; the key word, however, is limited.

High pressure at altitude will remain over our area throughout the week, so rain will be more limited. The high pressure may move away by next weekend, so some showers will likely return to the area.

With less rain, it will be warmer with maximum temperatures between 35 and 32 degrees Celsius and a heat index between 38 and 41 degrees Celsius!

It is still quiet in the tropics at the moment, although the National Hurricane Center has identified an area over the central Atlantic as a possible area of development for later this week as it approaches the Lesser or Greater Antilles. Currently, this poses no threat to SWLA and it remains uncertain if it develops at all. Models are not in agreement on whether development is occurring or not. Those that do indicate development also have a wide range of tracks.

There is NO need to be concerned at this time, but it is a reminder that we are in hurricane season and you should have a plan in place in case a system threatens our area. And remember, the peak of hurricane season is almost 6 weeks away!
