Aiken man charged in Myrtle Beach shooting that left Virginia teen dead

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The suspect in the shooting death of a Virginia teenager in Myrtle Beach will appear in court Sunday.

Myrtle Beach police said Saturday that one person was in custody in connection with the death of 16-year-old Jakolbi Taylor. That suspect was later identified as 18-year-old Gary Abraham of Aiken.

Abraham is charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The MBPD said the Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisted with the case.

A bail hearing for Abraham will be held Sunday afternoon. WMBF News reporter Eric Richards will be in the courtroom to provide updates as the hearing begins.

The news also came after hundreds gathered in Roanoke for Taylor’s funeral on Saturday.

Taylor, 16, was visiting Myrtle Beach with an AAU basketball team when he was shot at the beach access on 16th Avenue North on July 20. Myrtle Beach police said officers arrived on the scene around 1:15 a.m. Documents show several people ran from the scene.
