Deltona man dies in crash on I-4 in Volusia County, FHP said

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida. – A man was thrown from a sedan and killed in a crash on Interstate 4 in Volusia County late Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 11:17 p.m. on I-4 eastbound near mile marker 106 in the DeBary area, troopers said.

According to an FHP accident report, a 28-year-old Deltona man was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima faster than the speed limit and failed to see two vehicles in front of him in the outside lane. The front of the Altima then struck the rear of a 2016 Kia Optima, which in turn collided with the rear of a 2020 Nissan Rogue, the report said.

The Altima veered off the right side of the road and landed on the shoulder, where it struck a tree, FHP said. The Deltona man was ejected from the sedan and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said, adding he was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash.

The other two drivers were not injured in the accident and remained at the scene, police said.

The FHP investigation is still ongoing.
