Abington police arrest man for making terrorist threats while displaying a weapon and drug possession

The Abington Township Police Department announced this evening that officers responded to the 3000 block of Walnut Avenue in North Hills at 6:09 p.m. on Friday, July 26, for a report of an armed individual threatening the caller.

According to police, the victim told officers that he knew the suspect, later identified as Donte Vaughn, and that this was the third time Vaughn had been to his apartment that day.

The victim stated that during a previous encounter, Vaughn had threatened to “shoot up the place” and threatened a second victim, saying, “I’ll sew you up, too.”

Vaughn returned to the victim’s apartment with a black handgun and demanded that the victim go out into the street and fight, police said. The victim refused and Vaughn left the area.

According to authorities, he was last seen walking toward his workplace on Mt. Carmel Avenue.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and met Vaughn, who had just come out of the store.

He was arrested and clearly identified by the victim, police said.

Vaughn was unarmed when arrested and the weapon used was believed to be inside the store. Abington Detectives responded and searched the property with a signed search warrant.

Investigators seized eight firearms, three of which were non-serialized “ghost guns,” one was stolen from another jurisdiction, and one was equipped with a device commonly referred to as a “switch” that allows fully automatic firing.

In addition to the firearms, investigators also discovered protective vests, several thousand rounds of ammunition and narcotics.

Vaughn was charged with making terrorist threats, violating the Uniform Firearms Act and drug possession.

He was arraigned and is being held on $99,000 bail.
