Police find around 20 neglected dogs in Camden residence, some dead in cages

CAMDEN, Tennessee – A Camden man and woman have been charged with animal cruelty and neglect.

We spoke with Sheriff Ken Christopher, who told us that 44-year-old Charles Jordan and 57-year-old Linda Jared received citations from Animal Control Officer Gammon for neglect and animal cruelty.

“He contacted the sheriff’s office and requested the assistance of a deputy. Chief Deputy Van Clark and Deputy Mullins went to assist and when they arrived they saw approximately 20 dogs. Some of them were dead,” said Sheriff Christopher.

The sheriff said there were two or three dogs on leashes.

“Four or five were in cages or kennels. Eight were running around freely and the other four were already dead and their bodies were already decomposing from being dead for so long. Two of those dogs were still in the kennels and decomposing,” said Sheriff Christopher.

Christopher stated that the dogs were severely malnourished and their bones were visible through their skin.

“Looks very weak. No access to water or food in sight. Animal Control Officer Gammon has issued citations to both homeowners. 15 counts of animal neglect for the dogs that appeared malnourished and had no access to food or water and 6 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and neglect for the two dogs that were very weak,” said Sheriff Christopher.

Sheriff Christopher stated that animal control took the dogs away and placed them in a shelter.

Sheriff Christopher says the two were not arrested because they claimed to have health problems.
